My Unexpected Valentine

By Danica Avery

Cupid’s Arrow. The brand new dating app that claims it can find your perfect match. The catch? YOU don’t pick your match, the app does it for you! Just a short questionnaire is all that stands between you and true love. Will you take the plunge?

Criminal defense attorney, Emily Hall, is in a rut. She just lost a big case, she can’t remember the last time she went on a date, and her only friends are her older sister and her pet tortoise, Leo. It looked like she was going to be spending another Valentine’s Day alone this year, until her sister talked her into testing out her new dating app. To her surprise, the app paired her up with her old high school rival! Could it get any worse?

Bestselling sci-fi author, Nolan Peters, just lost the love of his life. After planning a very romantic proposal, he got turned down. Now he’s stuck on the happily ever after that could have been. His friends think he needs to move on. Maybe they’re right. Valentine’s Day is coming up, and who wants to spend it alone? When he signs up for the app, he never, in a million years, expected it to pair him up with the snobby Emily Hall from high school.

Now that fate has brought them back together, can they look past their history and find love where they least expected it?

This quirky holiday romance is a rivals to lovers story about two lonely people getting a second chance at their happily ever after. A perfect read for anyone who loves funny scenes, geeky references, and sweet moments that warm the heart!

This story was co-written by us both. It was our second ever published novel. It was fun to write a lighter, more humorous love story after the heaviness of Redeeming the Mountain Man.

So Much Fun

This is my second read from Danica, and I loved this one as much as the first. Emily and Nolan are such fun characters who have immediate chemistry (despite a rocky past). Nolan is instantly likable as the hero, and he makes you swoon with every page. Full of great banter, sweet moments, and steamy bedroom scenes, this fast paced story is sure to have you falling in love.

Four Solid Stars!

This was an entertaining read! Like countless others, I love the idea of two people coming back to each other after spending years apart, so My Unexpected Valentine had me there as soon as I read the blurb for it. Add in that these folks were once enemies, and I had no choice but to pre-order it!

Although I am an enormous romantic, I think what I actually liked most about this story was how relatable and useful the building blocks were. The secondary characters, Emily and Nolan’s personal interests, their careers, their character flaws, the little details sprinkled here and there—I felt like it all really helped bring the two of them together. Thanks to each of those thought-out aspects, Emily and Nolan’s rather fast-paced adult relationship didn’t feel super flat; there were times early on when I worried about how the story would turn out when they already seemed so crazy about each other, but I was pleased to find that it all came together in the end. Everything made sense and was resolved in one way or another because of how the story unfolded. I definitely finished reading with a smile on my face.

Also (probably no surprise, but I still want to say it), I appreciated the ways in which Emily and Nolan bettered each other, whether it was through emotional support and growth, revisiting old shared interests, or picking up new interests from each other. The physical attraction between them was big, but it wasn’t the only thing they had going for them. Balance is crucial in successful relationships, and I was happy to see it blooming in this book.

Thank you, ladies! 🙂
